Alex Ji’s art exhibition Earth’s Elegance and artist talk
Richmond-based artist Alex Ji’s exhibition Earth’s Elegance pays tribute to the diverse and ever-changing landscapes of Greater Vancouver. Inspired by the intricacies and complexities of nature, Ji’s work attempts to capture nature’s beauty in a way that is timeless and universal. From the snow-capped peaks of the North Shore Mountains to the rugged coastline of the Pacific, Earth’s Elegance conveys Ji’s appreciation of this majestic land that he now calls home.
Recipient of multiple painting awards in China, US, and Canada, Ji immigrated to Canada and set up studios in Richmond and West Vancouver in 2022. He holds a BFA in Painting and a MFA from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, and has been teaching painting since 2009.
This exhibition was curated by the Richmond Art Gallery and generously supported by Sohya Education, showcasing 32 oil paintings created by local artist Alex Ji and his nine students over the past two years, with a focus on the natural landscapes of the Greater Vancouver area. At the opening ceremony, a special exhibit featured Alex Ji's work, ‘'Echoes of Peace', which has been selected for the 2023 Canadian Federal Art Exhibition. With its delicate color control and the interplay of light and shadow, it portrays the gentle and tranquil beauty of the lake and mountains.

On the day of the exhibition's opening, inside the Richmond Cultural Centre Performance Hall, Alex Ji also conducted an art-sharing lecture titled 'Exploring the Beauty of Nature.' From a professional perspective, he elucidated the fusion and distinctions between classical impressions and modern styles, allowing the audience present to immerse themselves in the colorful canvases with great enthusiasm.
The Alex Ji's 'EARTH’S ELEGANCE' Oil Painting Landscape Exhibition will run for one month, from July 31st to August 28th.
